The World Engineering Conference and Convention (WECC2015) will be held in Kyoto from November 28 to December 4, 2015. WECC is an international conference on all fields of engineering; it is held by the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO) every four years to discuss the progress of technology and social contribution.

WECC2015 Aims

The World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO), established to foster peace and socioeconomic progress around the world by encouraging advances in engineering and international exchange, holds a World Engineers' Convention (WEC) at intervals of four years. The 1st WEC took place in Germany in 2000, the 2nd in China in 2004, the 3rd in Brazil in 2008, and the 4th in Switzerland in 2011.

The World Engineering Conference and Convention (WECC2015), the 5th WEC, will be held in Kyoto, Japan, in 2015. This event will showcase Japan as a nation built on scientific and technological innovation to achieve sustainable development in the 21st century. WECC2015 will also provide a forum for sharing information focused on innovations required to make sustainable development a reality and advances in fundamental technologies to achieve this vision. Adopting both local and global perspectives, WECC2015 aims to make a productive contribution to worldwide peace and socioeconomic progress.

WECC2015 Vision

  • Engineering, and the engineers, researchers and top managers who work in this field, have a vital social mission to achieve innovation that links scientific and technological advances to the creation of socioeconomic value.
  • In the 21st century, as well as generating material wealth, engineering needs to create safe and secure communities and build sustainable societies that foster diverse cultures and promote well-being.
  • Fulfilling the social mission of engineering in the 21st century will require us to continue making field-specific advances in science and technology while also integrating technologies in the aim of creating increasingly large and complex socioeconomic systems and generating innovation with a view to technology-based societies.
  • Setting its sights on engineering’s social mission and the challenges we face in the 21st century, WECC2015 will bring together representatives of industry, academia, government, and the general public from around the world to help build stronger global innovation networks that link knowledge creation to the creation of socioeconomic value.

Program Design Concept

From the perspective of “Engineering for Society and Engineering in Society”, WECC2015 intends to strike a balance between the innovation that engineering aims to achieve and presentations by engineers and researchers who will provide the basis for such innovation. Reflecting this approach, the overall conference theme will be “Engineering: Innovation and Society”. Main themes will be:

  1. Innovation for Sustainable Growth and Socioeconomic Development
  2. Engineering Research and Development for Innovation
  3. Engineering for Society and Engineering in Society

Benefits of Attending WECC2015

  • Explore issues affecting specific national and local societies in both developing and developed countries, and discover concrete resolutions to such issues through participation and cooperation in WECC2015 discussion aimed at identifying comprehensive solutions.
  • Attend world-class guest lectures and presentations outlining how innovations sparked by extensive R&D and technological advances in engineering can open up new applications and markets.
  • Develop global networks that harness personal connections to create new value, and foster innovation and creativity in engineers and top managers from other fields and sections.
  • Identify potential global partners for R&D and business in this cross-sector forum where the amalgamation of conference and convention fosters an interdisciplinary community of engineers and researchers.
  • Hear about new global innovation projects involving collaboration among multiple specialized fields and business sectors, and take part in discussion of specific measures contributing to sustainable development.
